The Roots of Delay Room can be traced all the way back to 1989. It was in this year that Jon Kirby was introduced to Gary Murphy via mutual friend Marvin Wright. They decided to form a band Crystal Daze which included Jons brother Simon Kirby on bass and Mark Starr on drums. They wrote and recorded together for two years, playing just one gig at the Roebuck in Lewisham. The band fizzled out in 1991 when Marvin decided to emigrate to Australia. Jon, Simon and Mark continued in a couple of bands in the early nineties before Jon and Mark formed Moscow Riley with Chris Dempsey (vocals / bass) and Andy Forest (keyboards). They released one album (Eat The Ammunition) and gigged widely.
Throughout this time Gary kept writing with Jon with a view to making an album someday. Moscow Riley have recently been performing local gigs again. Jon and Garys writing continued and in the early 2000s they decided to record an album (The Burning Truth). Simon then agreed to play bass on the album. All were pleased with the end result but they still needed to get out and play live. Michael Jones (rhythm guitar) and Weird Mark (drums) then joined forces with Jon, Simon and Gary and thus Delay Room the band were formed.
